16 countries including US starting process NID cards for expatriates

Staff Reporter: Md Najmul Huda, Consul General of the Bangladesh Consulate in New York, said that the government plans to issue national identity cards to expatriates. In continuation of this, the NID program is going to start very soon in 16 countries including the United States. National identity cards will be issued from the Bangladesh Consulate General in New York in stages. He said these things during an exchange of views with the media persons held on Tuesday (May 14) at 4:30 pm local time. New York Consulate Deputy Consul General SM Nazmul Hasan, First Secretary (Passport) Prasun Kumar Chakraborty and Counselor and Head of Chancery Ishrat Jahan and other officials were also present in the meeting.
This was Najmul Huda’s second interaction with media persons after joining as Consul General. In this meeting he informed everyone about his goals, action plans and initiatives. He expressed the sincerity and tireless efforts of the Consulate General in improving the service quality of the Consulate. Highlighting various problems of the expatriates who come to serve the New York consulate, he said that the biggest problem in the current workplace is space allocation and car parking. Many people lose their serial timing while searching for car parking. Many people stand without getting a place to sit inside. So soon we will shift the office to the new building. He mentioned that there is a plan to go to the new building in the first week of next September.
He said, with the efforts of all, under the leadership of the current government, Bangladesh has been promoted from a less developed country to a developing country, which will be fully recognized in 2026. From the year 2008-09 to the present time, he highlighted the position of Bangladesh in various economic indicators and highlighted the growing and developing economic capacity of Bangladesh. He drew the attention of media personalities to these issues and urged them to bring these issues before the people, in the court of the world.

The functions of the Consulate General in New York are guided by the spirit of our great liberation war, ideals of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for building a Smart Bangladesh, the Consul General said.
He sought the cooperation of all print, online and electronic media journalists in the continuous efforts of the Consulate General to protect the links of expatriate Bangladeshis with Bangladesh, to promote and spread the various initiatives of the government to protect the interests of expatriate Bangladeshis.
The consul general called diplomacy the main objective of his New York mission. The journalists present placed a desk of Sonali Bank in New York or any state-owned bank of Bangladesh and called for all consulate-related transactions including money orders. As an alternative, newsmen also suggest accepting credit or debit cards for transactions.
