35 sacked Bangladeshi workers return home from Russia
Bangla Press Desk: A total of 35 Bangladeshi migrant workers have returned home after being laid off in Russia.
They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 5:45pm on Sunday aboard Qatar Airways flight QR-638.
Shariful Hasan, associate director of BRAC, said the returnees were provided with emergency assistance, including transportation support at the airport, through joint efforts by the Expatriate Welfare Desk and Civil Aviation Security.
Several of the returnees, including Mashiur Rahman from Gaibandha, Asmat Ali from Manikganj, Haiyul Mia from Mymensingh, Azadul Haque from Sirajganj, Prosenjit Rajbongshi from Dhaka, and Md Abdullah from Chapainawabganj, alleged that they had been deceived under the pretext of overseas employment.
According to the workers, each of them spent an average of Tk7 lakh to secure jobs abroad.
They claimed that the recruiting companies terminated their employment without providing any clear explanation and decided to send them back to Bangladesh.
Sources said the process of repatriating a total of 120 Bangladeshi workers from Russia has already begun, with Sunday’s return marking the first phase, during which 35 workers were brought back to the country.
