Argentina coach Scaloni's mother has passed away
Bangla Press Desk: In sports, a defeat can often be avenged in a rematch. But Lionel Scaloni has now faced a loss for which there is no second chance.
The World Cup-winning coach of Argentina has lost his mother—a loss that is permanent.
Scaloni’s mother, Eulalia Marzetti, passed away last Tuesday at the age of 74. She breathed her last in the town of Pujato, in the Argentine province of Santa Fe. She had been suffering from various health issues for several years. According to Argentine media, Scaloni has traveled to Pujato to attend his mother’s funeral.
Eulalia lived in Pujato with her husband, Angel. They had three children: Lionel, Mauro, and Corina. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has extended its support to Scaloni during this difficult time.
In a condolence message shared on social media, the AFA stated: "Following the passing of Eulalia Marzetti, the entire Argentine Football Association, led by President Claudio Tapia, expresses its deepest condolences to our coach, Lionel Scaloni, and his family. On behalf of all Argentines, we send our heartfelt love and a fraternal embrace to Scaloni and his loved ones during this challenging time. Stay strong!"
AFA President Tapia issued a separate message of condolence. Addressing Scaloni as "dear Gringo," he wrote, "Dear Gringo, during this difficult time following the passing of your mother, the entire nation holds you and your family close. Please accept my deepest condolences.
I love you very much. We are here for you. May the soul of Eulalia Marzetti rest in peace." Following the Copa América victory in September 2024, Scaloni had expressed concern regarding his parents' health. The Argentina coach remarked, "They are no longer in the state we would like them to be in. This has weighed on me throughout the year since we won the World Cup, because I know they would have been the happiest people on earth to see our success. The thought of whether they were truly able to enjoy what we achieved will always haunt me. Knowing that they took joy in our success—that would have been the greatest gift of all."
