Call for ending disorder, passenger suffering in transport sector
Bangla Press Desk: Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, coordinator of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, has called for coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to eliminate disorder and public suffering in the country’s transport sector and other service sectors.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting held at Gabtoli Bus Terminal on Saturday, aimed at ensuring a smooth, safe and harassment-free journey for passengers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr travel period.The meeting was organised by the Gabtoli Bus Terminal Road Transport Owners and Workers Unity Council. Among others, Sarwar Hossain, Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Additional Police Commissioner SN Md Nazrul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman, transport leaders MA Baten and Saiful Alam, and leaders of the Bangladesh Transport Workers Federation, including Abdur Rahim Box Dudu and Humayun Kabir, also spoke at the programme.Shimul Biswas said various irregularities have long persisted in the transport sector, including overcharging of fares, extortion and discourteous behaviour towards passengers. As a result, ordinary people continue to suffer daily, he said.
“Discipline must be established in the transport sector and all forms of irregularities must be strictly curbed to protect the interests of the public,” he added.
He also noted that a lack of discipline is visible not only in the transport sector but also in different administrative and service sectors, which is increasing public hardship. To address the situation, he urged the government, administration, transport owners and workers to play responsible roles.
According to him, a well-organised transport system is essential for the country’s overall development and public comfort. He emphasised the need to ensure passenger safety, stop the collection of excessive fares and take effective measures to prevent extortion.He further said vigilance teams are working round the clock at bus terminals to prevent pickpocketing and snatching, ensure the safety of female passengers and stop overcharging of fares.
Shimul Biswas urged the authorities concerned to take swift and effective measures to restore order in the transport sector and eliminate irregularities, which would help reduce public suffering and improve overall service delivery.Source: daily Sun
