Staff Reporter: Bangladesh’s Minister for Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday, August 29, to attend the 40th FOBANA Convention.
Upon his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday afternoon, the minister was welcomed with flowers by leaders of the FOBANA Host Committee, including Convention Convener Dr. Zainul Abedin, Title Sponsor Munirul Islam, and Chief Patron Shipar Chowdhury. Dr. Zainul Abedin, convener of the 40th FOBANA Convention, confirmed the minister’s arrival on behalf of the Bangladesh Association of California (BAC).
Also present at Los Angeles International Airport to welcome the minister were Kazi Muhammad Javed Iqbal, Consul General of Bangladesh in Los Angeles; Badrul Alam Chowdhury Shiplu, president of California BNP; M. Wahid Rahman, general secretary; Abdul Munim, president of the Jalalabad Association; Layek Ahmed, general secretary; Nasir Syed Zebul, general secretary of the Bangladesh Unity Federation of Los Angeles (BAFLA); leaders of various social and cultural organizations; and relatives of the minister.
The minister will attend the 40th Convention of the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA) as the chief guest. The three-day convention will be held from September 4–6 at Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City in California, according to FOBANA Executive Committee Chairperson Rabiul Karim Belal and Executive Secretary Khaled Ahmed Rouf.
Convention Convener Dr. Zainul Abedin said preparations for the 40th FOBANA Convention, scheduled for the Labor Day weekend of September 4–6, are nearly complete.
This year’s convention is being hosted by the Bangladesh Association of California (BAC). More than 100 volunteers serving on various subcommittees are working around the clock alongside the host organization and FOBANA Executive Committee to ensure the success of the convention.
Dr. Abedin said the organizers selected the venue with the goal of making the 40th FOBANA Convention a memorable milestone in the organization’s history.
Universal City is one of the Los Angeles area’s major entertainment destinations, offering a distinctive combination of entertainment history, modern attractions and cultural experiences. Convention guests and visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy nearby Universal Studios Hollywood, including its famous Studio Tour, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Fast & Furious attractions.
Leaders of the host organization and the FOBANA Executive Committee have invited Bangladeshi expatriates and lovers of Bengali culture from across North America and beyond to attend the 40th FOBANA Convention at Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City from September 4–6.
