‘I had to marry my own maternal uncle...’
Bangla Press Desk: Bollywood actress Radhika Apte has made explosive remarks regarding her experience working in South Indian cinema. In a recent interview with an Indian media outlet, she revealed that in one Telugu film, her character was required to marry her own uncle.
Furthermore, she found it uncomfortable to perform romantic scenes with an actor significantly older than her. Her comments have sparked a wave of discussion and criticism on social media.
In the interview, Radhika stated, "I acted in a Telugu film where my character had to marry her own uncle.
It was extremely difficult for me to work on that film; I didn't like anything about it."
Actress Keerthy Suresh, who was also present, noted that the practice of marrying one's uncle exists within certain Tamil and Telugu cultural traditions.
Radhika also raised objections to other aspects of the film. She remarked, "I had to perform romantic scenes with an actor much older than me. The entire situation was rooted in a patriarchal mindset. Working in that environment was the most challenging part for me."
Although Radhika did not name the film, netizens suspect she is referring to the 2014 movie 'Legend'.
Nandamuri Balakrishna starred opposite her in the film, and the age gap between the two was quite noticeable.
There has been no comment from Nandamuri Balakrishna’s side regarding this. However, some of his fans have taken issue with Radhika’s remarks, leading to a heated exchange on social media. One fan commented, "The film being referred to is the 2014 movie 'Legend', which starred Nandamuri Balakrishna. If she had issues with the script or the lead actor's age, she should have raised them before agreeing to do the film."
Radhika Apte has yet to respond to these reactions.
