No one in Bollywood is happy about others' success: Manoj Bajpayee
BanglaPress Desk: From the outside, Bollywood appears to be a world filled with glitz and glamour. Many even perceive it as a 'family.' However, Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee disagrees with this notion, as he believes there is a distinct lack of courtesy and sincerity among those in the film industry.
Manoj Bajpayee points out that there is hardly any habit of reaching out—even with a simple phone call—to express appreciation for someone else’s work. He notes that there is no mutual cooperation within the Hindi film industry; in reality, there is nothing 'family-like' about Bollywood. He made these candid remarks while promoting his film *Gajab Raat*.
Despite having worked in the industry for a long time, the actor says he has never truly felt like a part of it. He asserts that the biggest misconception is the idea that Bollywood is a family—it is far from it. Here, actors are rarely, if ever, genuinely happy for the success of their peers.
"No director considers themselves inferior to another," Bajpayee explains, "and production houses certainly don't rejoice when a rival company earns more." He adds that, in this environment, people generally cannot stand to see others succeed.
Bajpayee also speaks out about the absence of courtesy and genuine warmth among industry professionals. "There is virtually no culture of calling to praise someone else's work. There is no real sense of brotherhood here; the very idea of mutual camaraderie is completely misplaced. It is best to abandon the notion of viewing Bollywood as a family or a brotherhood."
According to Manoj, everyone must fight their own battles in their professional lives; one cannot afford to sit around waiting for help from others. "You arrive alone, and you will depart alone," he says. "Do your job, collect your earnings, and go home. If someone happens to offer help, consider it an unexpected bonus."
Manoj Bajpayee also expresses his frustration regarding the working environment in Bollywood, stating, "Everyone on a film set should be treated with equal respect." There should be no distinction made between actors and crew members when it comes to food. Manoj also expressed regret over another matter, noting, "In the past, actors would sit together and chat; if they had time, they would even hang out after the shoot. Nowadays, as soon as the shooting wraps up, everyone heads to their own dressing rooms, where they spend their time on social media."
