Invest Bangladesh Comes Into Force With Three Agencies Unified
Bangla Press Desk: The Invest Bangladesh Authority, formed through the merger of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Public-Private Partnership Authority (PPPA), has formally begun operations.
The government issued a gazette notification on Thursday (20 August), bringing the Invest Bangladesh Act, 2026 into effect. The notification, signed by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar on behalf of the President, said the government had enforced the law from 20 August under the authority granted by Section 1(2) of the Invest Bangladesh Act, 2026.
The new investment promotion agency will now operate under the name Invest Bangladesh, following the merger of the three entities.
However, the full organisational structure, including the formation of various wings and teams, will be completed in phases, said Nahian Rahman Rochi, former executive member and head of business development at BIDA.
“From the gazette coming into effect, everything will now come under Invest Bangladesh. The remaining work, including forming new teams and wings, will begin gradually,” he said.
He said the authority had now become operational and the remaining organisational work would proceed in phases.
“We are delighted that Invest Bangladesh has emerged after months of work. Investors had long been demanding a single front desk for all investment-related services, and this initiative originated from that demand,” Rochi said.
“Our goal is to turn Invest Bangladesh into that single point of contact. As a result, investors will receive more coordinated, seamless and reliable services throughout their investment process,” he added.
Under the new law, Invest Bangladesh will operate as a statutory body, with its headquarters in Dhaka. With government approval, it may establish branch offices in different parts of the country and liaison offices abroad.
The authority will have a chairman and seven members to oversee its regular operations, with the chairman serving as its chief executive. Its key responsibilities will include identifying investment opportunities, promoting Bangladesh to attract domestic and foreign investment, removing investment barriers and coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies.
Following the merger, the existing assets, records, contracts, liabilities and other matters of BIDA, BEZA and PPPA will be transferred to the new authority. Officials and employees of the three organisations will also work under Invest Bangladesh.
The new authority is expected to provide investors with more integrated services and help reduce barriers to investment.
The publication of the gazette marks the formal implementation of a long-running process to merge the three investment-related agencies.
