Price Inflation Declines to 9.16% in June
Bangla Press Desk: The country’s point-to-point inflation eased to 9.16% in June, down from 9.42% in May, offering a modest respite after price pressures reached a 16-month high the previous month.
However, inflation has remained above the 9% mark for the third consecutive month, underscoring the continued strain on household budgets.
According to data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday, the country’s 12-month moving average inflation also declined to 8.68% during the July 2025-June 2026 period, compared with 10.03% in the corresponding period a year earlier.
The latest figures suggest that while inflationary pressures have started to ease, prices remain significantly higher than a year ago. Point-to-point inflation stood at 8.48% in June 2025.
Food inflation dropped to 8.60% in June from 9.06% in May this year, while non-food inflation eased slightly to 9.61% from 9.71% over the same period.
Despite the monthly decline, both food and non-food inflation remained higher than their levels a year earlier. Food inflation stood at 7.39%, while non-food inflation was 9.37% in June 2025.
