The first meeting of the Wage Board is being held at 11 AM.

BanglaPress Desk: Amid the ongoing unrest and factory closures that have brought the ready-made garment (RMG) sector to a standstill, the first meeting of the newly formed Minimum Wage Board is set to take place today (Wednesday, November 4) at 11:00 AM. The meeting has been convened on an expedited basis to address labor discontent and demonstrate tangible progress in the wage-setting process.
This information was provided by sources within the BGMEA, trade union leadership, and government officials.
According to these sources, the first meeting will mark the formal commencement of the Board’s operations. It also aims to address the workers' demands for wage increases and highlight the government's ongoing efforts to resolve the current unrest. On Tuesday, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan stated, "We have urged the relevant authorities to organize a meeting of the Wage Board as soon as possible."
He added, "We are making every effort to keep the factories operational. In the interest of both the industry and the workforce, we appeal to the workers to refrain from acts of vandalism and protests."
Meanwhile, a trade union leader, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that the meeting is scheduled to take place, noting that the concerned parties have been informed via telephone.
On Sunday (November 1), Minister of Labour and Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury announced the formation of a six-member Minimum Wage Board during a press conference at the Secretariat. On the same day, the Ministry of Labour and Employment issued two separate notifications regarding this development.
