Bangla Press Desk:   State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said, "Japan's civic education is praised worldwide. We want to learn from Japan's experience to instill a sense of responsibility, discipline, morality and civic values ​​among our students."
He said these things during a courtesy call on a high-level delegation led by Takahashi Junko, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Bangladesh, at the State Minister's office in the capital's Secretariat on Wednesday.
Bobby Hajjaj said, the government has undertaken extensive reform programs to make the primary education system of Bangladesh modern, skill-based and child-friendly. To this end, cooperation has been sought in the successful experience of the Japanese education system, curriculum development, teacher training and enhancing administrative skills.
The State Minister for Primary and Mass Education said, "We are currently working on formulating a new curriculum for primary education."
In this, special emphasis is being given to improving the quality of civic education, sports education, cultural education, mathematics and science education in the fourth and fifth grades and ensuring a challenging and enjoyable learning environment for students.
Referring to the plan to establish 'Math Labs' in primary schools, the State Minister said that Math Labs will be established in the country's primary schools step by step to make mathematics education more attractive and technology-based like science labs. JICA's technical assistance, training and advice in this regard is very important.
Bobby Hajjaj said that as part of structural reforms in primary education, Bangladesh is reviewing the education administration systems of Thailand and Turkey.
Initiatives have been taken to upgrade the responsibilities, accountability, performance evaluation (KPI) and monitoring system of field-level offices to international standards.
The members of the JICA delegation expressed their interest in continuing the ongoing cooperation in the development of primary education in Bangladesh. They discussed possible cooperation in curriculum development, teacher training, volunteer activities, enhancing the skills of education administration and creating a child-friendly learning environment.
