5 people including a child died in fire at New York

Staff Reporter:The Spring Valley Fire Department was dispatched to 118 Lake Street just after 4:00 a.m. for a reported house fire. Additional reports indicated that at least nine people were trapped on the second floor of the multi-family house. Several victims were transported to local hospitals and the Rockland County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene along with the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI). Communications have revealed that four to six victims perished in the fire. The Rockland County Technical Rescue Team staged at the fire training center and awaited further instructions at approximately 7:20 a.m. In addition to Spring Valley, the Hillcrest, Monsey, Nanuet, Suffern, and New City fire departments were involved in the operation.
