8,380 calls received thru 999 during national polls
Bangla Press Desk: The ‘National Emergency Service 999’ received a total of 8,380 calls related to the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The service was operated round-the-clock from 22 January to 14 February under a special plan to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections, said Mahiul Islam, head of National Emergency Service 999.During this period, citizens in need of assistance were provided emergency support in close coordination with the Law and Order Coordination Cell established by the Ministry of Home Affairs, he said.
Of the total calls, 3,713 were related to violations of the electoral code of conduct, clashes between rival parties, campaigning during prohibited hours, irregularities at polling stations, and other law-and-order issues.
These were immediately communicated to the relevant police stations, district and metropolitan police units, as well as returning and assistant returning officers for legal action.
The remaining 4,667 calls were queries from citizens seeking information on various election-related matters
