ADP spending hits nine-year low in Jul-Jan
Bangla Press Desk: Development spending in Bangladesh has slowed sharply in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, raising fresh concerns about the pace of project execution and its impact on economic activity.
Official data from the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) show that only Tk50,556.29 crore was spent under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) during July-January of FY2025-26, the lowest level for the period in nine years.
In the same period of FY2024-25, ADP spending stood at Tk59,876.87 crore, meaning this year’s outlay is Tk9,320.58 crore lower.
Even last year, when the public administration was disrupted by political unrest and the student uprising, implementation remained higher than the current level.
The overall implementation rate also slipped to 21.18% of the annual allocation, down from 21.52% in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The rate was significantly stronger in earlier years, reaching 27.11% in FY2023-24 and 28.16% in FY2022-23.
For FY2025-26, the total ADP allocation stands at Tk2,38,695.64 crore, including funding from autonomous bodies.
