After Two-Year Jail Terms, Two Bangladeshi Women Return Home

Bangla Press Desk:   Two Bangladeshi women returned home through the Benapole land port on Tuesday after serving jail terms in India.

The returnees were identified as Laboni Biswas, daughter of Labu Biswas of Ghagha village and Moni Biswas, daughter of Jahangir Biswas of Mahishkhola village in Lohagara upazila of Narail district.

The Indian Petrapole immigration police handed them over to Benapole immigration police around 6pm, officials said.

Benapole Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saifur Rahman said they entered Bengaluru illegally through the border on August 4, 2024, in search of jobs.

They were later arrested by Indian police while working as domestic helpers and produced before a court.

An Indian court sentenced them to two years in prison for illegal entry, following which they served their terms.

After completing their sentences, the Bengaluru-based Balamandir Child Home took responsibility for them and kept them at a shelter home.

Later, with the assistance of the embassies of Bangladesh and India and through a special travel permit issued by the Indian government, they returned home on Tuesday evening.

Human rights organisation Justice and Care received them from the police station and handed them over to their respective families, he said.
