Bomb threats against aircraft across Europe
BanglaPress Desk: Several airlines across Europe have received bomb threats. At least two aircraft were diverted to other destinations as a result. However, the United Kingdom has stated that these threats were "hoaxes."
Given that the threats were issued simultaneously, the highest level of caution was exercised.
According to the BBC, a total of 19 aircraft received such threats. Two of these were diverted to land elsewhere, while the others reached their intended destinations.
Additionally, at least two flights did not take off due to the threats; they were subsequently searched by the police. No explosives have been found on any of the aircraft that received these threats.
UK Transport Minister Heidi Alexander confirmed that aircraft across Europe had been targeted by "hoax bomb threats." She stated, "We are aware that a small number of flights in Europe have been affected by these threats."
She added that established protocols for handling such hoax threats were followed.
The BBC reported that this is the second time this week that air travel in Europe has been disrupted by such threats.
