Elderly Ayesha Begum finds hope through humanitarian aid
Bangla Press Desk: In a world where people are often consumed by their own struggles, some still work silently to bring smiles to the faces of the helpless. The Naria upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho has set such an example of humanity by extending assistance to a destitute elderly woman.
The organisation distributed food aid to 72-year-old Ayesha Begum, who lives alone with no husband or children, on Monday morning at the premises of Island Model Academy in Ghorishar union. Illness has left her unable to work, forcing her to survive on the kindness and sympathy of others.
Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho visited her and provided essential food items including rice, lentils, flour, potatoes, oil, puffed rice, salt, and meat, among other necessities. Overwhelmed with emotion, Ayesha Begum broke down in tears, expressing her gratitude and saying, “I am old and ill, unable to work. There’s no one left in this world for me. You’ve helped me when I had no hope. May Allah bless you.”
Shamim Hasan, president of the Naria upazila unit, presided over the event, while general secretary Engineer Mahbub Alam conducted the programme.
Among others present were the organisation’s adviser and Island Group adviser journalist Mahbub Alam, joint general secretary Rabbi Soiyal, organising secretary Nurun Nabi, assistant organising secretary Nazmul Islam, social welfare secretary Sujon Islam, women affairs secretary Rita Akter, and Island Model Academy teachers Shahida Begum, Hira Moni, and Mim.
Speakers said they believe every smile tells a story of hope and that Ayesha Begum’s joy is their true inspiration. They noted that Bashundhara Shuvosangho not only provides aid but also instils courage in people facing hardship.
They added that they cannot remain silent in the face of suffering and wished that such humanitarian initiatives spread across society—so that no one remains hungry or alone. Bashundhara Shuvosangho continues to stand beside people in need with the spirit of doing good for all.
