Former Comilla South District Chhatra League president Tutul detained
Bangla Press Desk: Police have arrested A F M Ahsan Uddin Tutul, the former president of the Comilla South District unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)—an organization whose activities are currently banned. He was arrested on Saturday afternoon from his residence in the Balutopa area of Jagannathpur Union, located in the Adarsha Sadar Upazila of the district. The Kotwali Model Police Station confirmed the arrest later that night.
According to the police, Tutul had been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. He had recently returned to the area and was working to reorganize the party. He was apprehended on Saturday afternoon based on a tip-off.
Tutul was a follower of former Railway Minister Mujibul Haque. His family claims that there are no cases filed against him in connection with the protests that took place in July 2024. He was also scheduled to travel to Japan next month.
Party sources indicate that Tutul served as the president of the Comilla South District BCL committee, which was announced on June 27, 2011.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Kotwali Model Police Station, Towhidul Anwar, stated that Tutul had recently returned to the area and was attempting to reorganize the Awami League—a party whose activities are now prohibited. He was arrested in connection with an anti-terrorism case based on specific allegations. He was subsequently sent to jail by the court later that afternoon.
