Janaza of six peacekeepers held at Dhaka Cantonment
Bangla Press Desk: The janaza (funeral prayers) of six Bangladeshi soldiers, who were killed in a terrorist drone attack during a United Nations peacekeeping mission, was held on Sunday at Dhaka Cantonment.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The deceased personnel are: Corporal Md Masud Rana, ASC (Natore), Lance Naik Shamim Reza, Bir (Rajbari), Lance Naik Md. Mominul Islam, Bir (Kurigram), Lance Naik Shanto Mondol, Bir (Kurigram), Mess Waiter Mohammad Jahangir Alam (Kishoreganj), Laundry Worker Md. Sobuj Mia (Gaibandha).
According to ISPR, brief biographies of the fallen soldiers were read out before the janaza, followed by special prayers seeking forgiveness for their souls. They were then accorded due state honors. Afterward, helicopters carrying their remains departed for their respective home districts.
The six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed on 13 December in a brutal terrorist drone attack on a United Nations peacekeeping mission camp in the Abyei area of Sudan. Nine other peacekeepers were injured in the attack. Among them, eight are currently receiving treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital (Level-3 Hospital) in Nairobi, Kenya. All of the injured are now out of danger.
