Bangla Press Desk: Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani has said if elected, he would direct the New York Police Department to arrest Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he sets foot in the city.
In an interview with The New York Times on Thursday, Mamdani described Netanyahu as a war criminal responsible for genocide in Gaza.
He said that if Netanyahu were to visit New York, he would “honour” the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant for his arrest by ordering police to apprehend him at the airport.
Legal experts cautioned that such an action would be practically unworkable and could contravene federal law.
