NY Police Chief Jessica Tisch’s brother calls Mamdani an ‘enemy of Jews

Ema Alice: The brother of the Big Apple’s top cop called mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani an “enemy” of Jewish people during a fiery charity dinner speech where he railed about the future of the city.

Benjamin Tisch younger brother of police Commissioner Jessica Tisch — was presenting an award Wednesday evening during the Met Council’s annual holiday dinner when the top exec at the Loews Corporation skewered the radical DSA lawmaker, according to sources. Tisch, who is Jewish, worried about the direction of the city after the election of Mamdani, a fierce critic of Israel who has threatened to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the Gaza war if he steps foot in the city.

The Met Council is a nonprofit aimed at combating poverty in the Jewish community and holds an annual gala at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Columbus Circle. The comments come just weeks after Jessica Tisch accepted an offer from the Mamdani to stay on as police commissioner — despite being far apart on a number of issues, including bail reform, raise the age and Israel.

Just two days prior, Apollo Global Management CEO Marc Rowan made similar remarks at another dinner party. “Someone who uses antisemitism in their campaign and normalizes antisemitism, he is our enemy,” Rowan proclaimed Monday night at a packed dinner hosted by UJA-Federation Wall Street.

The Tisch family, excluding Jessica, spent millions during the mayoral election to back Mamdani’s top foe, Andrew Cuomo, in an attempt to stave off the socialist mayor. “I understand the fear in the Jewish community,” Jessica Tisch said in a statement. “My sincere belief is that the mayor-elect will live up to the commitment he’s made to be a mayor for all New Yorkers, including the Jewish community.” Calls to both Benjamin Tisch and the Mamdani camp didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Mamdani told reporters Thursday afternoon that his police commissioner had reached out to apologize for the comments.
