One Dead, One Hurt in Shooting Incident in Dhaka

Bangla Press Desk:  A man has been shot dead and another injured after helmet-wearing assailants on motorcycles allegedly opened fire in Dhaka’s Dhalpur area of Jatrabari.

The shooting took place in Dhalpur's Sardar Gali around 10:30pm on Sunday.

Jatrabari Police chief Mohammad Rakib said the law-enforcers have launched an investigation into the incident.

Police estimated the dead, Sagar Khan Imran, to be around 40 years old.

The injured man, 32-year-old Bidyut Zakaria, is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Zakaria said six to seven helmeted men arrived at Sardar Gali in North Dhalpur, shouted "Imran, don't run", and fired indiscriminately at the man.

Zakaria was hit in the arm and leg during the attack.

Imran was rushed to DMCH in critical condition, where attending doctors pronounced him dead.

DMCH Police Outpost Inspector Habibur Rahman confirmed that Imran suffered a gunshot wound to the head and his body has been placed in the morgue for a post-mortem examination..

He added that Zakaria sustained bullet wounds to his left leg and right hand and is undergoing treatment in the emergency department.

Zakaria’s wife, Jhinuk Akhter, said her husband runs a rickshaw garage business in Dhalpur's Sardar Gali.

At night, he was sitting in front of the garage alongside Imran when seven to eight helmeted men on four motorcycles pulled up and fired randomly at them, leaving both men shot.
