SC stays HC order to shut down high schools during Ramadan
Bangla Press Desk: The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division has stayed a High Court order that directed the closure of all government and non-government lower secondary and secondary schools throughout the month of Ramadan.
The order was issued on Monday by Justice Farah Mahbub of the Appellate Division’s Chamber Court.
Barrister Aneek R Haque, additional attorney general, represented the state during the hearing.
Earlier on Sunday (15 February), a HC bench comprising Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Md Asif Hasan had ordered that all lower secondary and secondary schools remain closed for the entire month of Ramadan.
The writ petition seeking the directive was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Ilias Ali Mondal.He had previously served a legal notice to the government on 5 January, urging it to keep schools closed during the holy month of Ramadan.
During the High Court hearing, Advocate Md Ilias Ali Mondal and Advocate Tanzina Babi Liza represented the petitioner.
Following the Chamber Court’s order, the HC directive has been suspended until further proceedings.
