Siraz Uddin Miah named new cabinet secretary
The government has terminated the contract of cabinet secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid and appointed M Siraz Uddin Miah as his successor, days before the new administration is sworn in.
The decision was announced in two separate official notifications issued on Friday.
One notification said the remaining term of Rashid’s contractual appointment as cabinet secretary, granted on Oct 8, 2024, had been cancelled “in the public interest”, with immediate effect.
When contacted, Rashid told bdnews24.com: “I resigned a few days ago. That resignation has been accepted today [Saturday].”
Siraz Uddin has been serving as principal secretary at the Chief Advisor’s Office.
The changes come at a sensitive administrative moment, as the country prepares for the formation of a new government following the general election.
