Suhrawardy Anti-Drug Operation Sparks Action: 4 Cops Closed
Bangla Press Desk: The police have closed four personnel for beating up journalists and Dhaka University (DU) students while conducting an anti-narcotics drive at the Suhrawardy Uddyan on Monday night.
Authorities are trying to identify two-three more policemen involved in the “over enthusiastic” incident, said Masud Alam, deputy commissioner at DMP’s Ramna Division, on Tuesday afternoon.
Disciplinary actions will be taken against all of them, he added.
On Monday night, Masud Alam led the anti-drug drive at Suhrawardy Uddyan. At one point, some policemen harassed and beat up some journalists and students of DU.
Videos of the harassment swiftly went viral on the social media, drawing sharp rebukes from netizens.
On Tuesday, a section of DU students besieged the Shahbagh Police Station in protest against the harassment.Source: daily Sun
