Tahsif’s death: Deep placed on 3-day remand for the third time

BanglaPress Desk: In the murder case concerning the recovery of the body of former Air Force officer Tahsif Sauri, the court has placed Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep—described as a ‘younger friend’ of the victim—on a third round of three-day remand for questioning. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam issued the remand order on Thursday, following an application by the investigating officer.

This information was provided by state counsel Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman. The investigating officer, Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Tongi River Police Outpost in Gazipur, had requested a further seven-day remand for Deep, citing five specific reasons:

1. To ascertain the motive behind Tahsif’s murder (e.g., prior enmity, financial transactions, or political/personal conflicts).

2. To recover evidence used in the commission of the murder.

3. To gather information regarding the mastermind(s) and accomplices—specifically, to determine if any other key planners, hired killers, or facilitators were involved, and to establish their identities and whereabouts.

4. To cross-reference the accused’s statements with information from eyewitnesses or CCTV footage.

5. To obtain details regarding the nature and modus operandi of the crime.

Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqi presented arguments in favor of the remand on behalf of the state. The defense counsel, Monirul Islam, opposed the remand application and requested bail for the accused. Following the hearing, the court ordered a three-day remand for Deep.

Tahsif Sauri, who had gained attention for allegedly recording a video of the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s departure from the country, was found dead—his body floating in the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat—on the afternoon of October 28.

Tahsif (left) had left his home on Tuesday evening in the company of an individual named Deep (right).

On the evening of October 27, Tahsif had gone downstairs at the ‘behest of Deep’ and departed from his residence on his own motorcycle. Deep stated on October 29 that after having dinner together at a restaurant, he parted ways with Tahsif in the Uttara House Building area.

As no case had been filed even after three days, and amid discussions regarding what course of action to take, Deep was handed over to the River Police on the night of October 30. Following a case filed by Tahsif’s father that same night, Deep was formally arrested. The next day, the court placed him on a four-day remand. On Tuesday, a second remand—this time for three days—was ordered.

Furthermore, acting on information provided by Deep, Tahsif’s motorcycle was recovered on the morning of October 30 from the Mazar Basti area in Tongi.

Deep also admitted to accompanying Tahsif to that area—known as a "drug den"—around midnight. Last Friday, PBI officials even visited the site in Tongi, taking Deep along with them.

In connection with this case, the court placed Jerika Tasnim Disha—a "female friend" of Tahsif Sauri—on a four-day remand last Sunday.

Following the conclusion of that four-day period, a second three-day remand for Disha was ordered on Wednesday. On the night of the incident, Disha had been seen with Tahsif at a bar in Uttara.
