Thailand to recruit workers from Bangladesh in two sectors
Bangla Press Desk: For the first time, the Thai government is planning to recruit workers from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka to address severe labor shortages in its agricultural and construction sectors.
If this new initiative by the Thai government is successfully implemented, it could create significant employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers in this Southeast Asian nation.
On October 13, an update on Thailand’s labor policy revealed plans to recruit workers from these three countries—a move that expands beyond the nation's traditional labor sources.
Although agriculture and construction play vital roles in Thailand's economy, both sectors have faced long-standing labor shortages that have severely hampered production and development activities.
The Thai government has launched this new initiative to manage the situation and diversify its sources of labor.
According to reports, specific recruitment quotas or the exact number of workers to be hired from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka have not yet been finalized; however, preliminary preparations for the recruitment process are moving forward rapidly.
If everything proceeds as planned, the recruitment process for workers from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal could be finalized by January 2027.
