Trump couple evacuated after gunshot sounds at White House dinner

Noman Sabit: Trump evacuated from White House Correspondents Dinner amid loud bangs 

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump on Saturday were evacuated from the White House Correspondents Dinner after loud bangs were heard.

Three shots were heard, with people seen running through the doors into the ballroom. A person could be heard shouting, “Move, move!”

Guests were in the middle of the first course when the loud bangs rang out. Attendees quickly dropped to the ground with many getting under tables. At one point, what sounded like a few people began to chant “USA.”

People began standing up and crawling out from under tables roughly five minutes after the incident occurred.

Washington Examiner editor Bob Cusack told The Hill that dinner guests dove to the floor. He said he did not hear shots, with others at his table saying they heard more shots. He described the incident as a “very confusing situation.”

A U.S. Secret Service official told CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins that a shooter was located in the lobby. The Hill has reached out to the Secret Service for comment.

Other administration officials onstage with the Trumps were rushed out of the room.

Weija Jang of CBS, the White House Correspondents Association president, later announced from the dais that “the program will resume.”
