Trump–Schumer meeting over New York’s stalled Gateway tunnel project
Abu Sabet: President Trump met with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) Wednesday at Trump’s request to discuss the hold that the president put on the $16 billion Gateway tunnel project linking New York City and New Jersey.
Schumer emphasized to Trump the urgent need to promptly release his hold on the major project, which has already been funded, according to a readout of the meeting provided by Schumer’s office.
The project employs thousands of workers and Schumer says it’s vital to the New York and Northeast economies.
Schumer also urged Trump at the meeting to push Senate Republicans to pass the three-year extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits that expired in January.
And he he told the president that raids to deport immigrants from Democratic-led states are “terrorizing communities,” according to his office. He urged Trump to pull back Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers from Minneapolis and other cities.
