Ema Alice: Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show made waves with lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle with some touting him as representing the American dream and others condemning his show, performed almost entirely in Spanish.

“Thank you @sanbenito for taking the California stage and using your voice at #SuperBowl LX. A beautiful moment! Together, we are America,” Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) wrote in a post on X, highlighting the final message on a football held by Bad Bunny during his performance.

The California governor also declared Super Bowl Sunday as Bad Bunny day, spotlighting the singer’s supporters and fans across the state.

Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) lauded the artist, writing, “It doesn’t get any more American than this. Unity and love over division and hate. Thank you Bad Bunny for reminding us who we are,” in a post on X.

Sen. Raphael Warnock shared his approval for the performance too, writing “Bad Bunny!” with two hand clap emojis and a 100 symbol, signaling support for the Latin American star.

His colleague, Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), also chimed in.

“What a beautiful halftime performance by an all-American superstar, Bad Bunny. Together we are America,” the Washington senator wrote in a post on X.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) wrote, “NUEVAYoL” with a Puerto Rican flag emoji in a post on X, touting love for Bad Bunny from the Empire State.

While multiple Democrats lauded the top-ranking Spotify artist for highlighting the nation’s Latin American culture, some Republicans slammed it, with President Trump labeling it “absolutely terrible.”

“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

“Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World,” he added.

“The ⁦@NFL⁩ should apologize to the American people for flooding the Super Bowl with foreign flags. Totally disgraceful,” conservative activist Laura Loomer wrote in a post on X.

“There’s nothing American about any of this,” she added.

In protest to Bad Bunny’s performance, some Republicans streamed Kid Rock’s alternative halftime show backed by Turning Point USA.

“Kid Rock > Sad Bunny. Congrats TPUSA,” former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino wrote in a post on X.

“My mother: ‘who is this Bad Bunny?’ Don’t worry mom, we aren’t watching him,” Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon wrote in a post on X.

Conservative Candace Owens said she didn’t enjoy Bad Bunny or Kid Rock’s performance.

“I am sorry but I hate both options. On The one hand, we have a half-time show presented without a word of English spoken. On the other hand we have an organization that scammed its views by paying platform advertisers, followed by influencers to pretend they broke records,” Owens wrote in a post on X.

“The left vs. right grift is actually boring now. What exactly are we doing here, America?” she added.
