Court orders arrest of Pori Moni

BanglaPress Desk: A court has issued an arrest warrant against popular film actress Pori Moni. The warrant was issued due to her failure to appear in court in a case filed by businessman Nasir U. Ahmed.
On Wednesday (November 4), Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman of Dhaka issued this order.
According to court sources, the case was scheduled for the testimony of witnesses. The plaintiff’s side requested the cancellation of the defendants' bail. Counsel for Pori Moni sought an adjournment, stating that she could not appear in court due to an allergy-related illness. The court subsequently granted the plaintiff's request, cancelled Pori Moni’s bail, and ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant.
Previously, on January 26 of last year, the court framed charges and ordered the commencement of the trial. An arrest warrant was issued against Pori Moni at that time as well; she later surrendered to the court and was granted bail.
In 2024, the investigating officer—Inspector Md. Monir Hossain of the PBI (Police Bureau of Investigation), Dhaka District—submitted a report to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court. The report confirmed the validity of allegations regarding assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and her costume designer, Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy (alias Jim). However, no evidence was found to substantiate the allegations against another defendant, Fatema Tuz Jannat Bony. The Dhaka Judicial Magistrate’s Court subsequently accepted the PBI’s investigation report and issued summons for Pori Moni and Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy (alias Jim) to appear in court. Following this, they appeared before the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka on June 25, 2024, and were granted bail.
The case was originally filed on July 6, 2021, by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud—president of the Boat Club—against Pori Moni and two others.
The other two defendants in the case are Pori Moni’s associates, Fatema Tuz Jannat Bony and Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy (alias Jim). In the case, Nasiruddin stated that Pori Moni and her associates are accustomed to consuming alcohol. They frequently visit various high-end clubs, where they consume alcohol and take some away with them, all while failing to pay the bill. Pori Moni also uses her connections with police officers to threaten others with harassment through the filing of false cases. On the night of June 9, 2021, shortly after midnight, the accused entered the Boat Club in Savar and used the washroom on the second floor. Subsequently, they remained inside the club and consumed alcohol.
