Siyam reveals why he left legal practice to pursue acting

BanglaPress Desk: Before entering the world of acting, Siam Ahmed worked as a lawyer. He still dedicates some time to the legal profession, though much less than before; he is now a professional actor.
In a recent interview, Siam shared, "I entered acting by compromising on my other profession, as choosing this path was a calling from within." Despite his legal education, he has no regrets about leaving that field.
He remarked, "Knowledge and experience gained are never wasted. They help me observe human behavior and bring characters to life."
Transitioning from law to acting brought significant uncertainty early in his career. The actor recalled, "I faced mental pressure due to the unpredictability of the film industry and my family responsibilities. Yet, I remained honest and steadfast in pursuing my dreams. I prioritize enjoying my time and my work over material luxuries. My wife’s emotional support in these decisions has made my life much easier."
Regarding his family life, Siam said, "Since becoming a father, I have become very family-oriented. Being with my loved ones at home is my comfort zone. Becoming a father myself has helped me understand the profound emotions within relationships; consequently, I am now planning to work on films suitable for families and children."
While content with his current profession, Siam is troubled by certain shortcomings in the industry—for instance, the tendency to release films exclusively during the Eid holidays. He views this as problematic, stating, "We must move beyond the mindset of releasing films only around Eid. We need to create an environment where movies are released consistently throughout the year. I believe that Bangladeshi audiences always warmly embrace good stories and quality filmmaking. It is not enough to simply make a film; producers also have a responsibility to ensure that news of quality work reaches the audience through well-defined planning and promotional budgets."
The actor further noted that he is moving forward with a clear objective, adding, "Chasing cheap celebrity status is not my goal." "I want to leave a positive impression on the audience through the integrity of my work and my performance. That is the primary goal of my acting career."
Meanwhile, in terms of his work, Siam was last seen in the film 'Rakshosh', released during this year's Eid-ul-Fitr. Although the film—directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy—did not achieve the expected commercial success, it was not a complete disappointment and managed to generate a fair amount of discussion. It was initially released exclusively in multiplexes on the day of Eid, and following the holiday, it began screening in about 30 single-screen cinemas across the country. Currently, Siam is busy with the thriller 'Andhar', directed by Raihan Rafi. Although the film was originally scheduled for release last October, it was subsequently postponed. The director has stated that he is now working toward a theatrical release on March 26, 2027.
