DSCC Dismisses Viral Dog Removal Allegations
Bangla Press Desk: The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has dismissed social media claims suggesting its workers are arbitrarily removing stray dogs from the streets as “false and misleading”.
On Tuesday, the city corporation said protecting residents from public suffering and nuisance is one of its key legal responsibilities, bdnews24.com reports.
It said immediate action is taken if reports emerge of rabid dogs or attacks on residents, especially children and pedestrians, in any area under the Dhaka South City Corporation.
Under the process, aggressive or sick stray dogs are being collected in the public interest and brought under scientific neutering and anti-rabies vaccination programmes under veterinary supervision to prevent the spread of infections.
The civic body clarified that it does not support or engage in the culling of dogs or any inhumane treatment of animals.
Instead, it follows scientific and compassionate methods to balance environmental stability with public security, in full compliance with livestock laws.
The DSCC also alleged that an “interested quarter” was spreading false and misleading information on social media, particularly on Facebook pages and groups, to damage its image.
It warned those involved to refrain from such propaganda, saying strict legal action would be taken against rumourmongers.
The media and conscious citizens were asked for their support in spreading accurate information.
