Has power generation begun at Rooppur? The ministry provides a different account.

BanglaPress Desk: Confusion has arisen regarding statements made by the Minister of Science and Technology, Fakir Mahbub Anam, concerning power generation at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The Minister had informed journalists that power generation had commenced in the first unit. However, Abdullah Al Mamun, Senior Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Science and Technology, clarified in a press release that the ‘Stage C’ power start-up process for Unit 1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has begun.
Abdullah Al Mamun stated that a significant milestone in the commissioning of Unit 1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant was reached on Friday (October 30). On the previous day (October 29), the Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority granted approval to the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and the Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited to initiate ‘Stage C’ of the power start-up process.
Following this approval, the ‘Stage C’ power start-up activities for Unit 1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant have officially commenced.
‘Stage C’ is a critical phase in the commissioning process for Unit 1. During this stage, the reactor's power level will be increased incrementally to test and verify the functionality and integrated operation of various plant systems. This includes the reactor, primary and secondary systems, turbine-generator, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, reactor protection, and other essential safety-related systems.
As the reactor's power level is raised in stages, specific tests and evaluations will be conducted at each step. In particular, the performance of the turbine control and protection systems, the generator, and the associated electrical infrastructure will be monitored and verified.
A key objective of ‘Stage C’ is to successfully complete the prescribed tests, synchronize the Unit 1 generator with the national grid, and move toward stable, consistent power supply. This activity will be carried out in phases, subject to meeting the relevant regulatory and commissioning requirements and obtaining the necessary approvals.
The approval for 'Power Start-up Stage C' and the commencement of operations at Unit 1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant represent a significant milestone in the commissioning process of Bangladesh's nuclear power program. Nuclear safety is being prioritized above all else throughout these operations.
