Mild Heat Spell Covers Four Districts
Bangla Press Desk: The Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore and Noakhali districts are experiencing a mild heat wave, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The heat wave will continue for another two or three days, Meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick forecast.
He told bdnews24.com on Wednesday afternoon, "The mild heat wave blowing over the Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore and Noakhali districts, especially in the Khulna Division, may continue for another two or three days. However, there is a possibility that the heat wave will ease if it rains."
A mild heat wave is defined as temperatures between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. The scale runs from moderate at 38 to 40 degrees, severe at 40 to 42 degrees, to very intense above 42 degrees.
Dhaka also sweltered through Wednesday, with the mercury climbing to 33.8 degrees Celsius, leaving pedestrians and working people gasping.
Jashore saw the highest temperature in the country in the 24 hours to 6am on Wednesday, with the mercury hitting 36.6 degrees Celsius.
Sylhet logged the lowest at 23.4 degrees Celsius and also saw the heaviest rainfall over the period at 97mm.
The BMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty or gusty winds and lightning, may occur in many places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and in one or two places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions on Wednesday.
Along with this, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur at some places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. The day and night temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged.
For Thursday, the Met Office forecast similar conditions across Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet, with some places in Rajshahi, Dhaka and Chattogram also in line for showers, and one or two places in Khulna and Barishal.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is again likely in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet.
Day temperature is expected to rise slightly while night temperature will stay unchanged.
