PSC Programmer Jailed in BCS Question Leak Case

Bangla Press Desk:  A Dhaka court on Monday ordered Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) programmer Koushik Debnath to be sent to jail in a case filed over the alleged leaking of BCS examination questions.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order after the accused surrendered before the court, said Bench Assistant of the concerned court Md Riaz Hossain.According to court sources, defence lawyer Md Shariful Islam argued for bail, claiming that the allegations brought against the accused were completely false, baseless and fabricated.

The prosecution, however, opposed the bail petition. The court later rejected the bail plea and ordered that Koushik be sent to jail.

Earlier, on 7 July, Koushik had surrendered before the High Court and sought bail. The court then directed him to surrender before the lower court within six weeks.

According to court sources, CID Sub-Inspector Nippon Chandra Chand filed the case with Paltan Police Station on 8 July 2024, naming 31 people as accused and 50-60 unnamed persons.

CID Additional Superintendent of Police Suman Kumar Saha, also the investigating officer, submitted a charge sheet on 18 May 2026 against 55 people, including Abed Ali.According to the charge sheet, selected candidates were allegedly provided with the leaked questions and answers before examinations under the leadership of Abed Ali, identified as the mastermind of the question-leak syndicate.

The candidates were allegedly taken to designated locations, where they were given the questions to memorise the answers before being sent to examination centres. In exchange, the syndicate allegedly collected large sums of money in advance.

The charge sheet further said the network extended from the Bangladesh Government Press (BG Press) to various government institutions and private NGOs, and that the syndicate allegedly remained active for a long period by compromising the confidentiality of examinations.
