Schedule for re-examinations for unsuccessful candidates to be released within a day or two

BanglaPress Desk: The Ministry of Education is preparing to hold re-examinations in December for students who failed the HSC and equivalent examinations. There are also plans to publish the results within the same month.

Given the relatively low number of examinees, the authorities are considering establishing one examination center in each Upazila. The examination schedule and the timeline for filling out application forms may be announced within the next day or two.

Professor Syed Akteruzzaman, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and President of the Inter-Board Coordination Committee, shared this information. He stated that the objective is to conduct re-examinations for the unsuccessful students and publish the results promptly, ensuring they remain integrated into the current academic year.

He explained that students will be eligible to retake the subjects in which they failed. The proposal under consideration involves setting a minimum of three and a maximum of four subjects for these re-examinations. However, a student who failed in only one subject will be required to take the exam for that specific subject.

The Dhaka Education Board Chairman noted that the plan to set up one center per Upazila—covering approximately 500 Upazilas nationwide—would simplify seating arrangements for the examinees. The final number of centers will be determined based on the number of students appearing for specific subjects; particular attention will be given to subjects like English and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which have a higher number of unsuccessful candidates.

He added that efforts will be made to keep examination fees affordable, noting that the fee structure is being determined based on the costs required to operate the examination centers.

According to the Dhaka Education Board Chairman, a significant portion of the students who failed struggled with English and ICT. He pointed out that among the approximately 298,000 students who failed in at least one subject, about 80 percent were unsuccessful in one or both of these two subjects.

Although the plan is to hold the examinations and publish the results in December, he mentioned that the schedule will need to be coordinated carefully, as scholarship examinations are also slated for the same period.
