A Memorial Tribute to Dr. Forrest E. Cookson
Bangla Press Desk: AmCham Bangladesh deeply mourns the passing of Dr Forrest E. Cookson, former President of AmCham Bangladesh.
He passed away last night while undergoing treatment at United Hospital, Dhaka.Born on 26 April, 1934, in the United States, Dr Cookson first came to Bangladesh in the mid-1980s to contribute to a financial sector reform initiative.
He worked as a consultant to the Bangladesh Bank and played a significant role in the Financial Sector Reform Program during the 1990s. Over time, he developed a deep and enduring connection with the country, dedicating a substantial part of his life to Bangladesh.
During his tenure as AmCham President (1996–2001), Dr Cookson was instrumental in strengthening the Chamber’s foundation and advancing US–Bangladesh business relations.
In addition to his work with Bangladesh Bank, he served as a consultant to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics and other institutions, leaving a lasting imprint on the country’s economic landscape.
A constant presence at the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, Dr Cookson remained actively engaged over the years—participating in events and contributing to the AmCham Journal even in recent times.
In his later years, he continued to shape public discourse through his regular writings on Bangladesh’s financial sector and investment climate in leading newspapers and publications.
