President calls for unity in the spirit of November 7 to build a democratic Bangladesh

BanglaPress Desk: Inspired by the spirit of the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day,' Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon everyone—regardless of political affiliation or ideology—to unite in building a democratic, just, humane, and secure Bangladesh.

He issued this call in a statement released on Friday (November 6) on the occasion of the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day,' observed on November 7.

He noted that the revolution of soldiers and the public on November 7, 1975, remains an unforgettable milestone in the national life of Bangladesh. At this critical juncture in the nation's history, the unified uprising of soldiers and citizens restored the country's independence and sovereignty. During this period, the late President Ziaur Rahman was freed from captivity; with the overwhelming support of the people, the responsibility of governing the nation and overcoming its national crisis was entrusted to him.

In his statement, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir remarked that the solidarity between the soldiers and the public was an unprecedented awakening, fueled by the spirit of independence. A resurgence of this same spirit was witnessed during the mass uprising of 2024, where the unity of students, men and women, members of the armed forces, and people from all walks of life brought an end to 16 years of fascist rule. This prevented Bangladesh from descending into the catastrophe of becoming a subservient state.

He emphasized that the revolution and solidarity of November 7 hold immense significance in the nation's history. Following this, the late President Ziaur Rahman restored multi-party democracy, the rule of law, and freedom of speech and the press. Beyond fostering economic liberation and social peace, he steered Bangladesh away from a submissive foreign policy. Guided by the principles of 'Bangladeshi Nationalism,' he led the nation toward development, progress, and prosperity, while establishing good governance at all levels.

Reflecting on the current political landscape, he noted that the nation has repeatedly faced conspiracies against its independence and sovereignty; democracy has been trampled upon, and the country has endured the burden of a fascist, oppressive regime.

However, through the collective efforts of all, and under the leadership of an elected government, the nation has once again embarked on the path toward democracy. The President emphasized the need to further strengthen all state institutions, including democratic ones, to sustain this progress. He urged that the National Parliament be placed at the center of efforts to resolve national issues, alongside fostering mutual respect and dialogue.

The President stated that, in order to realize the hopes and aspirations associated with November 7, the state will be governed based on the philosophy of "Bangladesh First"—prioritizing the nation and its people above all else. National interest, equality, fairness, and the practice of democracy will be given the highest priority.

The President called upon the nation to protect its independence and sovereignty, and—inspired by the spirit of November 7—to put an end to corruption, discrimination, and all forms of conspiracy. At the same time, he expressed his best wishes for the overall success of all programs marking the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day.'
