Bullet-Hit Yasin succumbs to injuries battling two days for life
Bangla Press Desk: Mohammad Yasin (22), who sustained critical gunshot wounds during a clash between rival groups over local dominance in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, died early Monday after fighting for his life for two days.
Yasin, son of Shafiqul Islam from Alamnagar village under Nabinagar municipality, succumbed to his injuries at dawn, his brother Shahin Mia confirmed. The family was bringing his body back to their home village on Monday morning.
Earlier, Shipon Mia (30), son of Monek Dakat of Nurjahanpur village, was shot dead on the night of the same incident, Saturday (November 1). With Yasin’s death, the toll from the violent confrontation has now risen to two.
According to local sources, the incident occurred around 9:00 pm on Saturday at a hotel near Gani Shah Mazar in Barikandi Union. Shipon Mia was chatting with others when a group of armed assailants suddenly stormed in and opened indiscriminate fire, leaving Shipon (30), hotel worker Yasin (20), and Nur Alam (18) injured.
Panic gripped the area as gunshots rang out, but the attackers managed to flee the scene before locals could intervene.
Following news of Shipon’s shooting, his supporters from Nurjahanpur village launched a retaliatory attack. Armed men raided the Taltola area near Gani Shah Mazar, firing at the office of Emran Hossain Master (38), a local teacher. Later, they vandalized and looted several houses in Thollakandi village.
Police have been deployed in the area to prevent further escalation, though tension remains high among rival groups.
