Court Acquits Man 12 Years After Wife’s Murder Case

Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Tuesday acquitted Abdur Rahim of charges in a case filed 12 years ago over the alleged strangulation death of his wife in the capital’s Mohammadpur.

Judge Elina Akter of the Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court-5 delivered the verdict as the prosecution failed to prove the charges against him beyond reasonable doubt.

Defence lawyer Md Omar Faruk said the case was initially filed as an unnatural death case by the victim’s maternal uncle. Rahim was acquitted in that case as no evidence was found against him.

Nearly three months after the incident, the victim’s mother filed a murder case against Rahim. However, the investigation found no evidence to substantiate the allegation, Omar Faruk said.

Court sources said the prosecution produced 13 witnesses during the trial, while the defence cross-examined 11 of them.
