Bangla Press Desk: The Election Commission (EC) has sent the draft of the Representation of the People Order 1972 (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 to the Ministry of Law for vetting in order to finalise it.
Confirming the matter, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the draft of the RPO (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 was sent to the ministry on Tuesday for vetting. Once it comes back, it will be published in the form of a gazette, he said.
Earlier, after the EC’s ninth meeting held on 11 August, Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said several major revisions were finalised in the draft.
These include incorporating the Armed Forces Division in the definition of law enforcement agencies; abolishing all rules related to electronic voting machines; introducing a “No Vote” option if a constituency has only one candidate; giving the EC authority to suspend election results when necessary (a power it previously did not have); and replacing the lottery system in case of tied votes with re-voting.
