Ex-CJ Khairul Haque Granted Bail in Last Pending Case
Bangla Press Desk: Former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque has secured bail in another case, clearing the way for his release from jail as he has now obtained bail in all nine cases filed against him, his lawyers said.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Monday, along with a rule.
Senior lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury appeared for Khairul Haque during the hearing of the bail petition, while Deputy Attorney General Shayla Parveen Shanta represented the state.
Following the order, lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju, who also stood on behalf of Khairul Haque, said the case was filed against the former chief justice on November 25, 2025 at Banani Police Station in Dhaka, accusing him of attempting to murder.
After a lower court rejected his bail petition, he moved the High Court seeking bail. Following the hearing, the High Court granted him interim bail on Monday, he said.
"With today's bail, Justice Khairul Haque has secured bail in all nine cases filed against him. Therefore, there is no longer any legal bar to his release from jail," Mr Saju said.
Meanwhile, the Appellate Division on Sunday upheld a High Court order directing authorities not to show the former Chief Justice as arrested in any case other than a specific case and not to harass him.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, passed the order while disposing of a petition filed by the state challenging the High Court order.
As a result, the High Court's directive remains in force specifically in relation to Khairul Haque, lawyers concerned said.
