Bangla Press Desk: India has dismissed allegations by Bangladesh that the banned Awami League has opened political offices on Indian soil, saying it is unaware of any such activity and does not permit political campaigns against other countries from within its territory.
Responding to media queries on Wednesday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The Government of India is not aware of any anti-Bangladesh activities by purported members of the Awami League in India or of any action that is contrary to Indian law. The Government does not allow political activities against other countries to be carried out from Indian soil.”
“The Press Statement by the Interim Government of Bangladesh is thus misplaced,” Jaiswal added.
The response came hours after Dhaka issued a strong protest, urging New Delhi to close what it said were “reported offices” of the Awami League in Delhi and Kolkata and to stop anti-Bangladesh activities by the party’s fugitive leaders. The interim government, which came to power following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina in the July 2024 uprising, warned that such activities could harm bilateral ties.
