Man dies after entering river; woman leaves scene, investigation underway

Bangla Press Desk:: A man in India’s Uttar Pradesh jumped into the Yamuna River from a bridge in Prayagraj on Thursday and was rescued by police and local divers after a swift operation.
However, the woman believed to be his girlfriend, who had accompanied him to the bridge, reportedly left the scene immediately after he plunged into the water.
The incident took place on the New Yamuna Bridge and the man was identified as Annu Gupta, police said.
According to eyewitnesses, the couple had come to the bridge allegedly with the intention of ending their lives. However, moments after Gupta jumped into the river, the woman walked away from the spot.
Police and local divers rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident and launched a rescue operation. After sustained efforts, they managed to pull Gupta out of the river safely.
Following necessary formalities, the man was handed over to his family members, police said, adding that he is safe.
Police said they have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident and are also trying to trace the woman who was accompanying him.
Officials said all aspects of the case are being examined and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
