Meeting Held to Prepare for Presidential Election
Bangla Press Desk: A preparatory meeting was held at the Bangladesh Parliament on Tuesday ahead of the 2026 presidential election, scheduled to take place in the Jatiya Sangsad chamber on 20 August.
Acting Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament Barrister Kayser Kamal presided over the meeting at the Cabinet Room of the Parliament.
Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam, MP; Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam, MP and whips Alhaj Md G K Gaus, MP; Rakibul Islam Bakul, MP; Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, MP; Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia, MP and A B M Ashraf Uddin (Nijan), MP attended the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Acting Speaker Kayser Kamal said all areas of the state structure needed to be freed from fascism.
“The 2026 presidential election is a historic moment in building a fascism-free Bangladesh,” he said.
The meeting approved, with necessary amendments, the minutes concerning the use of the Jatiya Sangsad chamber for holding the presidential election, provision of logistical support and ensuring the attendance of members of parliament.
Participants were also advised to complete all necessary preparations and logistical arrangements for the election.According to the election schedule announced by the Bangladesh Election Commission, the presidential election will be held in the Jatiya Sangsad chamber on Thursday (20 August).
Under Section 3 of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, the Chief Election Commissioner will conduct the election.
Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed and senior officials concerned of the Parliament Secretariat were also present at the meeting.
