PM's Information Advisor barred from entering Delhi
Bangla Press Desk: The Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman was stopped by the Indian immigration authorities at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday while on a visit to India. Although permission was later granted on the orders of the higher authorities, the Prime Minister's Advisor did not enter Delhi and left for Dhaka via Colombo.
This information was given in a report by Indian media outlet News18 on Sunday.
The report quoted sources as saying that after arriving in India as a member of a delegation to attend a government meeting, Zahed Ur Rahman's name was identified on a security watchlist during the regular immigration process. He was immediately detained at the airport for additional verification.
Sources said that the Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting and Cultural Advisor arrived at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday evening to attend a two-day meeting of senior officials of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) to be held in Delhi from Monday. He was supposed to lead the Bangladesh delegation in that meeting.
It is learnt that the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi had officially informed the Indian Ministry of External Affairs about the participation of the advisor as the leader of the Bangladesh delegation in that meeting on Friday. But after landing at the Delhi airport in the evening, the Indian immigration authorities kept him waiting for two and a half hours for mysterious reasons. It was not clear whether he would be allowed to enter Delhi or not. In such a situation, Zahed Ur Rahman decided to return home. He left Delhi for Colombo that night. He is scheduled to return home before noon on Monday. Source: daily Sun
