5 Injured in New York Penn Station Knife Attack, Suspect in Custody

Officials said at least one injury is serious, two are moderate and the rest are minor. Neither law enforcement officials nor the FDNY has confirmed whether all five victims were stabbed. The incident is being handled by the Amtrak Police Department, an NYPD official told The Mirror US. The agency reported to have one suspect in custody. The conditions of the victims and the events leading up to the stabbing are unclear at this time. Due to anticipated traffic jams, road closures, and interruptions to mass transit, police are advising the public to stay away from the area.

"Earlier this afternoon, Amtrak Police responded to a reported stabbing at New York Penn Station. The suspect has been apprehended and an investigation is underway," the Amtrak Police Department said in a statement to The Mirror US. Authorities responded to a report of multiple people stabbed around 7 p.m. One law enforcement officer said the suspect is believed to have mental health issues.

Other pictures circulating on X show seven officers standing around an ambulance said to have been loaded with the five victims. Sources told ABC7 that none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. The crime was said to have happened near the New Jersey Transit section. Videos posted on X by Luke2Freedom, a video journalist, show mayhem in the station as hundreds of travelers congest the halls to find the exit.

The video also provided a close-up of the scene, showing what appears to be bloody tissues lying near tracks five and six. The stabbing occurred on the eve of President Donald Trump's scheduled presence at Madison Square Garden, which is located right above Penn Station, for Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The Secret Service, the NYPD, and other agencies are anticipated to have a significant presence for the nationally televised event, and the presidential visit has already spurred increased security measures around the stadium and surrounding streets.
