Advisers have secured their own interests: Sharmin

Bangla Press Desk: Senior Joint Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Samantha Sharmin, has accused advisers of the interim government of prioritizing their own interests over the welfare of the nation.
She said the interim government has positioned itself against the people and taken a stance against the country’s education system.
The NCP leader made these remarks yesterday afternoon while expressing solidarity with the MPO-enlisted teachers during their sit-in program at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
Sharmin criticized the government for spending millions of taka on vehicles for ministries while claiming there is no money for teachers. “The caretaker government has stood against the education system,” she said.
She added that there had been hope for the formation of an education commission in Bangladesh, which would have addressed the destruction of the education system allegedly carried out under Hasina’s tenure.
However, she claimed the government is instead pushing the country toward elections, ignoring the hopes and aspirations of teachers and students.
She emphasized that legal action must be taken against anyone involved in undermining the education system, regardless of which party forms the government.
Sharmin also condemned the undervaluing of teachers, calling the neglect of their benefits and rights “unacceptable.” She noted that the current salaries are insufficient to support even low-income families, and accused the government of deliberately keeping teachers at a lower economic level.
