Cyclone ‘Murasu’ is approaching—when and where will it strike?
Bangla Press Desk : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that a new low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal could intensify into a cyclonic storm. The potential cyclone has been named 'Murasu'—a term meaning 'drum'—a name proposed by India. It is expected to move in a west-northwesterly direction, reaching the vicinity of the coast by the evening of November 2, with a potential landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on the morning of November 3.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area that developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent Andaman Sea intensified into a depression on Saturday afternoon and is likely to evolve into a cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours. IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra indicated that this storm might be slightly less intense than the recently passed cyclone 'Arnab'. The system is expected to bring wind speeds of 80 to 90 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching 100 km/h. It is also likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall across various regions in India. Isolated, very heavy rainfall is anticipated in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam (Puducherry) on November 2, with the possibility of continued rain the following day. Furthermore, heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh for November 2 and 3, and for the coastal areas of Odisha for November 3 and 4. Gusty winds are expected to begin along the coasts of Andhra Pradesh, northern Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry from the evening of November 1, with wind intensity likely to increase further across these coastal regions on November 2 and 3. Additionally, the meteorological office has forecast gusty winds along the southern coast of Odisha from the evening of November 2 through November 4.
